The Company

John Vaughan & Co was established in 1955 as an importer and distributor of Sporting, Leisure & Recreational products to retailers throughout New Zealand.

Today, John Vaughan & Co employs 18 people, including a strong sales force that constantly travel the country and are based in New Zealands four main centers - Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington and Christchurch. Our Head Office is located in Petone and our Distribution warehouse is based in Wainuiomata, Wellington.

The Company Directors:

David Vaughan - Managing Director, son of John Vaughan and grandson of the company's founder, Jack Vaughan. David started with the company in 1987. His interests include golf, skiing and shooting. Married to Anna and has two young children.

John Vaughan - Director, son of the late founder Jack Vaughan. Joined the company in 1958 and became the managing director in 1966. John's sporting interests include golf and tennis, in which he is still very active at the business house and social level. He and his wife Anna have a family of four.

Pat Williams - Sales Director, commenced a sporting goods career in 1955 and joined the company in 1970. He is the past president and chairman of the New Zealand Sports Association and is still on the board. Married to Ann father of two. Pat's leisure time is spent on the golf course. Andrew, their son joined the company in 1997 and is the Sales Manager.

Order delivery system

John Vaughan & Co operates a delivery system that is envied in the industry.

Ex-stock orders are despatched the same day and are normally in store before 3pm the following day (except parts of Sth Island). This system operates Monday to Friday and in many cases includes Saturday delivery.

When possible indent orders are despatched from the 15th of the month prior to charge date. For example, If a dealer requires March delivery, goods are despatched 15th February and charged on the 1st of March (and would be due for payment 20th April).

The warehouse packing system is completely computerised. All orders are barcoded and scanned for accuracy.

We have a Customer B2B web service. Our customers can view our catalogue by categories or searching keywords, view their forward and backorders and place orders with our easy shopping cart system.

We have one of the best catalogues in the New Zealand trade. All our customers are sent an updated colour catalogue each year. We have an on-line version which can be seen here.

Reputation and Awards

John Vaughan & Co is a foundation member of the New Zealand Sports Industry Association, a body consisting of approximately 250 retailers and 60 suppliers. Over the last few years John Vaughan & Co has won many awards including "supplier of the year" and "runner-up supplier of the year" on several occasions.

The Sales and Marketing team have won many "Sales Representative of the Year" and numerous runner-up awards.

National buying groups

The company is a "preferred supplier" to all the major buying groups in New Zealand. The groups include Stirling Sports, Sportsworld, Pro Shooting, Rebel Sport, Sportspower and Hunting & Fishing.

John Vaughan & Co frequently organises retailer and sports oriented sponsorships, promotions and advertising programs.

In house catalogue design

John Vaughan & Co constantly designs and prints colour catalogues to help promote our products. We find this a very effective way to target customers with pamphlets detailing products and brands that relate to their customer base and seasons. This includes mailing flyers direct to over 4,500 schools in New Zealand.

Vaughan Views

John Vaughan & Co is the only company in New Zealand sports trade with a regular newsletter, The Vaughan Views. This semi-professional production, written by staff members, containing product information, company news and a sprinkling of humour to ensure 100% readership.
